Jay-Z - I Can’t Get Wit That

Jay-Z used to have a very different style back in the early 90s. When people tell me “comeon man, Jay-Z sucks!” I just remind them that he unarguably has a TON of classics under his belt that represent true to the core hip-hop. I Can’t Get Wit That is a low-key old school hip-hop classic, and it’s one of my all time favorite songs by him.

Mac Miller - Vitamins

I didn’t have high expectations for Mac Miller’s mixtape Macadelic since Mac has been letting me down ever since he became famous, but he obviously put a lot of effort into this mixtape. I actually really like it, and it’s in my top 15 favorite mixtapes of 2012. There are some really solid songs on it that I wasn’t expecting.  Mac definitely has a more philosophical awareness of his fame and drug use than most famous hip-hop artists, and enjoys talking about it. This song is actually a very well put together story, and he uses vivid imagery that effectively brings you to his world. The beat is also bonkers (in a very good way) and it really adds a lot to the song in the best way possible. Vitamins is my favorite song off of the mixtape. I’m hoping he can keep up this effort, and start making real music…avoiding the watered down sound he has been falling victim to.
